Shankar Subramanian takes charge as Director General Medical Services for Indian Navy
New Delhi: 11 May 2026:- Surgeon Vice Admiral Shankar Subramanian officially assumed the role of Director General Medical Services (Navy) on May 11, 2026. An alumnus of the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune and a Gold Medalist from Pune University in 1988, he is a highly regarded specialist in Medicine.
His academic credentials include advanced specialized training in Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi.
Throughout his distinguished career, Subramanian has established himself as a prominent physician, researcher, and academic leader. Before taking on his current appointment, he served as the Deputy Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Medical).
His extensive experience includes several other high-profile leadership positions, such as Head of the Department of Medicine at AFMC Pune, Commandant of the Command Hospital Air Force in Bengaluru, and Principal Medical Officer at the Headquarters of the Eastern Air Command.
