HRRL Refinery Inauguration Postponed Following Fire Incident at Crude Distillation Unit
BALOTRA, April 20, 2026 — The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas announced on Monday that the scheduled dedication of the HPCL Rajasthan Refinery Ltd (HRRL) by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been postponed.
The ceremony, which was originally set for April 21, 2026, was delayed following a fire that broke out in the vicinity of the refinery’s Crude Distillation Unit (CDU). Authorities confirmed that the blaze has been successfully brought under control and reported that there were no casualties or injuries resulting from the incident.
In an official statement shared via social media, the ministry noted that an investigation has been immediately launched to determine the exact cause of the fire and to implement all necessary remedial measures.
The refinery, located at Pachpadra in the Balotra district, represents a major integrated refinery-cum-petrochemical complex developed as a joint venture between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and the Government of Rajasthan.
A revised date for the Prime Minister’s dedication of the facility is expected to be announced once the site assessment and safety protocols are fully completed.
