Work Underway for Temporary Restoration of Jammu-Srinagar Highway After Heavy Rains Cause Extensive Damage says IGP Traffic

Udhampur 29 August :- Work is ongoing day and night to temporarily restore the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, which has suffered extensive damage due to heavy rainfall and landslides from Udhampur up to the Chenani area says IGP Traffic, Suleman Choudhary (IPS), during an inspection of the affected sites.IGP Suleman visited the severely impacted area of Balinallah on the Udhampur stretch of the highway to oversee the restoration efforts.

He stated that the recent heavy rains triggered landslides that caused major destruction to the vital road link. “The road has been damaged and in some places, it has been completely washed away,” he said. Specific points of concern include the Balinallah area and the Dewal Bridge, among others.To address the crisis, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has deployed all available men and machinery to make the highway temporarily operational at the earliest. While these efforts are in progress, IGP Traffic Suleman Choudhary issued a strong advisory to the public, appealing to them to avoid travel on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway until the restoration work is complete.
