Rahul Gandhi accuses EC of massive voter roll irregularity in Bihar; Officials cite procedural explanation
Bihar 29 August :- Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has launched a fresh attack on the Election Commission, alleging a major irregularity in the draft electoral rolls for Bihar.
During his ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in the state, he shared a party post claiming that in Nidani village of Gaya district, all 947 voters of a particular booth were erroneously listed as residents of the same house (number six), calling it “the magic of EC.” The Congress party expressed alarm, suggesting this could indicate a nationwide scale of discrepancies.
However, the Chief Electoral Officer’s office swiftly issued a clarification, explaining through the Gaya District Magistrate’s social media that a “notional house number” is a standard procedure used in villages and slums without proper addressing to simplify voter enumeration. The DM’s office also shared videos of villagers who expressed satisfaction with the electoral revision process but were upset over what they called “attempts to defame the area.”
