LG Vinai Kumar Saxena Visits Kargil Market; Outlines Strategic Plan to Boost Tourism and Infrastructure
KARGIL, April 13, 2026 — Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Vinai Kumar Saxena, conducted a high-level inspection of the Kargil town market today to personally assess urban management and commercial challenges in the region.
Accompanied by Chairman/CEC of LAHDC Kargil, Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, Member of Parliament for Ladakh, Mohd Haneefa Jan, and JUAIK President, Sheikh Nazir-Ul-Mehdi, the LG engaged in a direct dialogue with local residents, traders, and various stakeholders.
The visit provided a critical ground-level perspective on the daily hurdles faced by the business community, particularly regarding the town’s ability to support its growing role as a central hub for commerce and tourism.
During the extensive interaction, local traders raised pressing concerns regarding the town’s infrastructure, specifically citing the lack of adequate parking facilities, chronic traffic congestion, and a shortage of public utilities that struggle to keep pace with the increasing tourist footfall.
Responding to these grievances, LG Saxena issued immediate directives to the Deputy Commissioner of Kargil to formulate a comprehensive action plan. This plan will prioritize the development of parking zones, enhanced sanitation protocols, and the installation of modern public conveniences, alongside an aesthetic upgrade of the market to be designed in consultation with local stakeholders.
To ensure these initiatives are not delayed, the Lieutenant Governor further instructed the Chief Secretary to personally monitor the progress of these works and ensure all grievances are addressed in a strict, time-bound manner.
Reaffirming his vision for the region’s economic future, LG Saxena emphasized his steadfast commitment to transforming Kargil into a premier global tourist destination, backed by robust urban management and world-class infrastructure.
