SRINAGAR, 28 August – In a significant success for the security forces, the Indian Army, in a meticulously planned joint operation with the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), foiled a major infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the rugged and high-altitude Gurez sector of Bandipora district on Thursday, eliminating two armed terrorists.
The operation, which has been codenamed ‘Naushera Nar IV’, was launched based on specific and credible intelligence inputs provided by the JKP, which indicated a likely attempt by a group of terrorists to cross over into the Indian side from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
According to a detailed statement issued by the army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps on the social media platform ‘X’, the alert troops deployed in the sector were on high alert and had laid a tight ambush following the intelligence tip-off.
During the intense surveillance, the soldiers observed suspicious movement near the LoC and immediately challenged the infiltrating individuals. Instead of surrendering, the terrorists opened indiscriminate fire in a desperate attempt to break through the cordon, triggering a fierce firefight.
The army personnel retaliated with pinpoint accuracy and overwhelming force, effectively engaging the terrorists in a close-quarters encounter that resulted in both being neutralized on the spot.
The entire area has since been cordoned off, and a thorough search operation is currently underway to sanitise the vicinity and recover any arms, ammunition, or war-like stores that the slain terrorists were carrying.
