Kathua Police Bust Vehicle Theft Gang: Two Arrested and Nine Motorcycles Recovered

KATHUA, April 8, 2026 — In a major breakthrough against property crime, the Kathua Police have dismantled a vehicle lifting syndicate, resulting in the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of nine stolen motorcycles.

The operation was part of an ongoing district-wide drive against thieves and vehicle lifters, conducted under the supervision of SSP Mohita Sharma. The investigation gained momentum following a complaint filed on April 3, 2026, by Devinder Kumar regarding the theft of his motorcycle near AK Gupta Hospital.

Following the report, a dedicated police team led by Inspector Ashish Sharma, under the guidance of Additional SP Sunil Kumar Kesar and DySP Headquarters Ravinder Singh, launched a rigorous search that led to the apprehension of the culprits.The arrested individuals have been identified as Dwaraka Prasad and Keshav Sharma, both residents of the Marheen area in Rajbagh.

During the subsequent interrogation, the duo confessed to their involvement in the theft of the complainant’s vehicle. This breakthrough allowed the police to not only recover the initial motorcycle but also seize an additional eight motorcycles found in their possession, which are presumed to be stolen from various parts of the district.

These vehicles have been seized under the relevant sections of the BNSS as the police work to identify their rightful owners.Kathua Police remain committed to curbing illicit activities and solving theft cases to ensure public safety.
