J&K Jal Shakti Contractors Meet Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather Over Pending JJM Payments
JAMMU, April 06: A high-level delegation from the J&K PHE (Jal Shakti) Contractors Coordination Committee met with the Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, at the Assembly Secretariat to seek urgent intervention regarding unresolved grievances.
Led by Nazir Ahmed Mir, President of the Kashmir Province, and Rakesh Kumar, President of the Jammu Province, the delegation highlighted the severe financial strain currently facing contractors under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). Primary concerns raised during the meeting included the significant backlog of pending payments, the return of security deposits, and the ongoing delay in the submission of the House Committee report, all of which have hindered the smooth execution of vital water infrastructure projects across the region.
In response to these concerns, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather informed the delegation that the Legislative Assembly has granted a two-month extension to the House Committee to finalize and submit its findings. He provided a firm assurance that the report would be completed within this new stipulated timeframe and pledged to take up the contractors’ financial issues with the government for immediate redress.
The Speaker emphasized his commitment to ensuring that the grievances are resolved swiftly to ease the burden on the contracting community and maintain the momentum of ongoing public works. The meeting was attended by several senior members of the committee, representing both the Jammu and Kashmir divisions.
