Fatal Accident and Hotel Fire Shakes Pahalgam: One Dead Following Emergency Response Operation

PAHALGAM, March 17, 2026 — A devastating fire broke out at the Asal Resort in the popular tourist destination of Pahalgam, Anantnag district, early Tuesday morning, resulting in significant property damage and a tragic secondary fatality.

According to official reports, the blaze rapidly engulfed three structures of the hotel complex and a nearby vehicle. The firefighting operation was severely hampered by multiple LPG cylinder explosions at the site, which intensified the flames and created hazardous conditions for first responders.

While the fire was eventually brought under control, the incident took a grim turn when an employee from a neighboring hotel was struck and killed by a fire tender that was allegedly reversing during the winding-down phase of the emergency operation.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire, which currently remains unascertained. The local administration noted that while no guests or staff members were injured directly by the flames, the accidental death of the nearby hotel worker has cast a shadow over the rescue efforts.

Several fire tenders from various stations were deployed to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent properties in the densely packed resort area.

As of now, the site has been cordoned off for a forensic assessment to determine the origin of the blaze and to review the safety protocols during the vehicle maneuvering that led to the fatal accident.
