CACHAR, February 5, 2026 — In a major blow to illegal drug trafficking networks in the region, the Assam Rifles, operating under the aegis of the Spear Corps, successfully executed a joint operation with the Cachar District Police at Jirighat Market, Assam.
Acting on specific intelligence regarding a narcotics shipment, the joint task force intercepted an auto-rickshaw at the busy market location. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of ten boxes of high-grade heroin, estimated to be worth approximately ₹60 lakh in the international market, along with a significant amount of unaccounted cash.
The operation resulted in the immediate apprehension of one individual found in possession of the contraband. Following standard legal protocols, the suspect, the seized narcotics, and the vehicle were handed over to the local police for further investigation and filing of charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
This successful seizure underscores the persistent vigilance and seamless coordination between the Assam Rifles and state law enforcement agencies in their shared mission to dismantle drug cartels and ensure a “Drug-Free India.”
