QAZIGUND, February 5, 2026 — Authorities have implemented a multi-tier security blanket along the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), with a specific focus on the critical Navyug Tunnel corridor, ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s three-day tour of Jammu and Kashmir.
Under the direct field supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police (NHW) Qazigund, Mumtaz Ali Bhatti, security forces have fortified strategic transit points to ensure an impenetrable environment for both high-profile VIP movement and regular commuters.
The operation, executed following mandates from SSP Kulgam, Anayat Ali Chowdhury (IPS), involves a heavy deployment of police and paramilitary personnel led by the SDPO and SHO of Qazigund. To augment the physical presence on the ground, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have integrated cutting-edge surveillance technology into their monitoring strategy.
For the first time during such a transit, Wall Radar systems and thermal screening equipment have been operationalized at the Navyug Tunnel to detect potential threats in real-time.
These advanced tools allow for high-resolution monitoring and threat detection in low-visibility conditions, ensuring the highway remains a secure artery during the visit.
While officials have described these measures as precautionary, the intensified vigilance highlights the administration’s commitment to maintaining law and order and preventing any disruptions along the Union Territory’s primary lifeline.
