SRINAGAR | February 4, 2026 — The Meteorological Department (MET) in Srinagar has issued a fresh weather outlook for Jammu & Kashmir, predicting a shift from dry conditions to scattered precipitation over the coming week.
While the region is expected to remain generally dry until the evening of February 6, residents in high-altitude areas should brace for light snow starting late Friday night. This dry spell will briefly resume on February 7 and 8, followed by a significant weather system on February 9 and 10, which is slated to bring light rain and snow to many scattered locations across the Union Territory.
By February 11, conditions will stabilize, though isolated higher reaches may still see lingering snowflakes before a prolonged dry period sets in from February 12 through February 15.
Key Safety Advisories ⚠️In light of the shifting weather patterns, authorities have issued the following safety guidelines: Commuter Alert: Travelers and transporters are strongly urged to verify the status of major highways and roads with the relevant traffic units before embarking on journeys.
Avalanche Warning: The general public residing in snow-bound upper reaches is advised to avoid trekking into sloppy or avalanche-prone zones to prevent mishaps.
Administrative Compliance: Ensure all local administrative advisories are followed strictly during the February 9–10 wet spell.
