Strengthening Medical Infrastructure is Top Priority for Government, States Health Minister Sakeena Itoo

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 03, 2026 – During the ongoing Budget Session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Minister for Health and Medical Education Sakeena Itoo reaffirmed the government’s primary focus on fortifying existing medical infrastructure to improve healthcare delivery.

Responding to an inquiry from Legislator Sheikh Ahsan Ahmad regarding the creation of new medical blocks, the Minister explained that any such expansions would be strictly evaluated based on feasibility, manpower availability, and actual requirement.

Highlighting the current status of Srinagar district, which serves a population of over 15 lakh, she noted that the region is efficiently managed through one medical block and four medical zones under the administrative control of the Chief Medical Officer.

The Health Minister emphasized that the current administrative setup is functioning smoothly across all eight Assembly Constituencies without major impediments.

She further highlighted that Srinagar’s healthcare system is robustly supported by premier tertiary and secondary institutions, including Government Medical College Srinagar, SKIMS Soura, SMHS Hospital, and JLNM Hospital, which collectively ensure that patient loads are managed effectively and high-quality medical services are accessible to the public.
