SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 03, 2026 – To address urban congestion and enhance commuter ease, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg chaired a high-level meeting of the Multi-Disciplinary Committee on Traffic Management System for Srinagar City.
Key directives were issued to Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a new rotary at Exchange Junction and to initiate trial traffic runs on the realigned takeoff corridor toward the airport flyover.
To bolster the city’s parking infrastructure, the Divisional Commissioner instructed the development of surface parking at Children’s Hospital, JVC, and Chattabal, while directing the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to relocate kiosks at Jahangir Chowk to expand available space.
The meeting also confirmed that e-bus charging stations at Zoonimar will be functional by mid-February, with work at the Batamaloo station commencing on February 15. Technical updates revealed that all 800 cameras under the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) are fully operational, with priority instructions given for traffic light installations at Bemina and Nowgam flyovers and a feasibility study for a rotary at Sanatnagar.
Additional safety measures include the installation of ‘No Honking Zone’ signage and the closure of vulnerable median crossings from Pantha Chowk to Shalteng. Furthermore, SSP Traffic was directed to intensify enforcement against illegal parking by utilizing SSCL camera feeds for automated challan generation, ensuring a more disciplined and smoother flow of vehicles throughout the summer capital.
