CHANDIPUR, ODISHA – February 03, 2026The Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) achieved a landmark milestone in indigenous defense capabilities today by successfully demonstrating Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet (SFDR) technology.
The test flight took place at approximately 10:45 AM from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha. This breakthrough places India among a select group of nations possessing the specialized propulsion technology required to develop next-generation, long-range air-to-air missiles, providing a significant tactical advantage in aerial combat over regional adversaries.
During the flight, all critical subsystems—including the nozzle-less booster, the SFDR motor, and the fuel flow controller—performed flawlessly. The system was initially propelled to the required supersonic speeds by a ground booster motor before the ramjet took over. The flight’s success was validated by a network of tracking instruments, including radar and electro-optical systems, deployed along the Bay of Bengal.
Senior scientists from the Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL) and other premier labs monitored the launch, which received high praise from Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh and DRDO Chairman Dr. Samir V. Kamat for its role in strengthening national security.
