J&K Government Confirms No Official Assessment of 2025 Tourism Industry Losses

JAMMU, February 3, 2026 — The Jammu & Kashmir Government has revealed that no formal evaluation has been conducted to quantify the financial losses sustained by tourism stakeholders during the year 2025.

In a written response to a query raised by MLA Lal Chowk, Ahsan Pardesi, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah—who also holds the Tourism portfolio—stated that the department has not carried out an assessment of the economic impact on the sector.

This admission comes despite the significant downturn experienced by the industry following a tragic security incident in the Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, which claimed the lives of 26 individuals, most of whom were tourists.

The lack of an official study highlights a potential gap in data-driven recovery efforts for a sector that serves as the backbone of the region’s economy and suffered immensely following the April tragedy.
