Anantnag Police Register FIR Over Derogatory Social Media Content; One Arrested

SRINAGAR, February 02, 2026: In a decisive move to maintain communal harmony, the Anantnag District Police have registered a criminal case regarding the circulation of objectionable and provocative content on social media.

According to an official statement, FIR No. 14/2026 has been filed at Police Station Mattan against a woman accused of posting derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Authorities confirmed that the incident had triggered significant public concern, and the matter is currently under active investigation to ensure all legal protocols are followed.In addition to the primary case, the police have launched a wider crackdown on individuals attempting to incite unrest or disturb public tranquility through digital platforms.

One suspect has already been arrested for sharing inflammatory material. Issuing a stern warning, the police urged the public to exercise restraint and avoid sharing unverified or provocative posts.

The department emphasized that the situation is being closely monitored by cyber surveillance teams, and any further attempts to disrupt peace or spread rumors will be met with strict legal action in accordance with the law.
