J&K ACB Trap: Tikri Patwari Flees After Accepting ₹17,000 Bribe; FIR Registered
JAMMU, February 02, 2026: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Jammu and Kashmir has registered a formal case against Mohd Hanif, the Halqa Patwari of Tikri in Udhampur, following allegations of demanding and accepting an illegal gratification as per the Official Press Statement issued by the Anti Corruption Bureau(ACB) Jammu.
As Per the Press Statement based on written complaint, the revenue official allegedly demanded a bribe to allow the complainant to proceed with house construction, despite the complainant having met all legal formalities. The accused initially demanded ₹30,000 but eventually settled for ₹17,000, threatening to stall the construction of the house’s roof (lanter) if the payment was not made.
Upon receiving the complaint, the ACB Jammu conducted a discreet verification that confirmed the bribery demand. Consequently, Case FIR No. 01/2026 was registered at Police Station ACB Central, Jammu, under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
During a subsequent trap operation, Mohd Hanif was caught red-handed accepting the ₹17,000 bribe in the presence of independent witnesses. Although the bribe money was recovered from his office, the accused managed to flee the scene during the commotion.
A massive search is currently underway to apprehend the absconding official, and further investigation is ongoing.
