Surg Vice Admiral Vivek Hande Takes Over as Director General (O&P) AFMSNEW
DELHI, February 2, 2026 — In a significant leadership transition within the Indian Armed Forces Medical Services, Surg Vice Admiral Vivek Hande, AVSM, VSM, officially assumed the role of Director General (Organisation & Personnel) AFMS today. The appointment marks a new chapter for the office of the DGAFMS as it strengthens its administrative and clinical leadership.
An esteemed alumnus of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, and the National Defence College (NDC), Delhi, Surg Vice Admiral Hande is recognized as a Physician and Gastroenterologist of national repute. His career is distinguished by a blend of high-level clinical expertise and extensive administrative experience.
Prior to this new appointment, he served as the Senior Consultant (Medicine) in the Office of the DGAFMS.Throughout his career, the Flag Officer has held several prestigious positions, notably serving as the Executive Officer and later the Commanding Officer of INHS Asvini in Mumbai.
Upon his ascension to the rank of Vice Admiral and his new appointment, he was formally congratulated by Surg Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), who lauded his transition and continued service to the nation.
