Jammu Railway Crackdown: ₹62 Lakh Recovered from 8,300 Ticketless Passengers in January

JAMMU, February 1, 2026 — In a major enforcement drive to curb revenue leakage and ensure passenger discipline, the Jammu Division of Northern Railway recovered nearly ₹62 lakh in penalties during January 2026.

The intelligence-led operation, spearheaded by Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (SDCM) Uchit Singhal, targeted over 8,354 instances of unauthorized or irregular travel. By utilizing advanced data analytics to identify high-risk routes and “sealing” major stations during peak hours, railway authorities successfully pinpointed corridors habitually used by fare evaders.

The initiative specifically focused on late-night and early-morning services, ensuring that no loophole remained for ticketless travel. The month-long campaign was executed through seamless coordination between the Commercial Department, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), and the Government Railway Police (GRP).

According to SDCM Uchit Singhal, the objective extends beyond mere financial recovery; the goal is to foster a “culture of compliance” that protects the rights of paying passengers to a comfortable and secure journey.

To maintain this momentum, railway officials have announced that these unannounced, stringent checks will be expanded to cover every station and train within the Jammu Division in the coming months, sending a clear warning to those attempting to bypass the ticketing system.
