ANTF J&K Intercepts Major Narcotics Shipment: Over 18 kg of Poppy Straw Seized in Jammu
JAMMU, February 1, 2026 — The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Jammu and Kashmir has achieved a significant breakthrough by arresting a drug peddler and seizing more than 18 kilograms of Poppy Straw. Acting on high-level intelligence, an ANTF team established a specialized checkpoint on the Sidhra-Panjtirthi link road, where they intercepted an Alto car (JK02AF-0417). A meticulous search of the vehicle led to the discovery of the massive contraband haul, which was reportedly being smuggled from the Kashmir Valley to Jammu for distribution among the local youth.
The arrested individual has been identified as 46-year-old Kirpal Singh, a resident of Rajouri currently residing in Purkhu, Jammu. Authorities have seized the vehicle and registered FIR No. 02/2026 under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Preliminary investigations suggest the suspect is part of a larger organized syndicate, and the ANTF is currently working to identify the source of the drugs and the backward linkages involved in the network.
SSP M. Anwar Ul Haq reiterated that the task force remains committed to dismantling narcotics rings and urged citizens to continue supporting law enforcement with timely information.
