Government Approves 50 MVA Grid Station for Mendhar to Revolutionize Poonch Power Infrastructure

POONCH, January 31, 2026 — In a landmark decision aimed at transforming the energy landscape of the border region, the Government has officially sanctioned the construction of a 50 MVA, 132/33 KV Grid Station at Mendhar.

This strategic infrastructure project, estimated to cost ₹49 crore, is set to fundamentally overhaul the power supply network in the Poonch district. By providing improved voltage regulation and significantly reducing transmission losses, the new station will deliver a stable, uninterrupted electricity supply, effectively ending the chronic issues of frequent breakdowns and prolonged outages that have long hampered the area.

Minister Javed Rana expressed profound gratitude to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on behalf of the residents of Mendhar, hailing the project as a “historic and people-centric” intervention. Beyond just lighting homes, the grid station is expected to act as a vital catalyst for socio-economic growth in this hilly border belt.

For the current financial year 2025–26, an initial allocation of ₹3.43 crore has been cleared to ensure the construction phase begins without delay. This initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to equitable development, ensuring that even the most remote regions benefit from modern industrial standards and an improved quality of life.
