MoCA Recovers Black Box and Launches High-Level AAIB Investigation into Baramati Aircraft Accident
NEW DELHI, January 29, 2026 — The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has activated immediate investigative protocols following the tragic aircraft accident near Baramati, prioritizing a transparent and time-bound inquiry to determine the cause of the crash.
On January 28, a specialized six-member task force—comprising three officers from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) in Delhi and three from the DGCA Mumbai Regional Office—arrived at the crash site to begin forensic analysis.
Under the personal supervision of AAIB Director General, G V G Yugandhar, investigators have successfully recovered the aircraft’s black box, a critical breakthrough for the ongoing probe. The investigation is officially being conducted under Rules 5 and 11 of the AAIB Rules, 2025, with the Ministry reaffirming its commitment to following strict Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure a thorough and expeditious conclusion to the case.
