Jammu-Srinagar NH44 Traffic Update: Two-Way Movement Allowed for Jan 8 Amid Slow Zones
JAMMU/SRINAGAR | January 07, 2026The Traffic Police Headquarters, J&K, has issued a fresh advisory for National Highway 44 (NH-44) for January 08, 2026. Subject to fair weather and stable road conditions, both Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) will be permitted to ply from both sides—Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa.
However, commuters are cautioned that traffic movement has remained sluggish over the past 24 hours due to single-lane stretches at Balinalla, Dewal, Nashri-Dalwas, and between Marog and Kishtwari Pather, further complicated by the breakdown of three heavy vehicles.
To ensure a smooth journey, passenger and LMV operators are strongly advised to travel during daylight hours. Night travel is discouraged, as the heavy movement of HMVs between the Nashri and NAVYUG tunnels is likely to cause significant delays.
Motorists are urged to maintain strict lane discipline, as overtaking and wrong-lane driving are currently the primary causes of congestion on the highway.
