Srinagar Labour Department Launches 10-Day Awareness Drive on New Labour Codes and Social Security

SRINAGAR, JANUARY 02, 2026 — In a major initiative to empower the local workforce, the Assistant Labour Commissioner (ALC) Srinagar has inaugurated a ten-day district-wide awareness campaign focusing on the New Labour Codes and various Social Security Schemes (SSS).

The program commenced at Industrial Estate Khanmoh, drawing a significant gathering of HR professionals, employers, and industrial workers to explore the changing landscape of labor rights and statutory responsibilities. The inaugural session featured in-depth orientations by department officials on the four primary New Labour Codes: the Code on Wages, the Code on Social Security, the Industrial Relations Code, and the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code.

Central to the discussions were the mandatory maintenance of minimum wage standards, the requirement for timely salary disbursements, and the implementation of rigorous workplace safety protocols.

Officials emphasized that these codes are designed to foster a more transparent and secure working environment for both the employer and the employee.

A key highlight of the campaign is the promotion of central safety nets, including the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana for pension security, alongside the Suraksha Bima and Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojanas for comprehensive insurance coverage.

Special attention was also given to welfare measures tailored for individuals registered under the Building and Other Construction Workers framework. To ensure lasting impact, the department distributed Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials, encouraging HR managers and workers to prioritize enrollment in these schemes to ensure long-term financial stability across the district’s industrial sectors.
