Women Officers Take Command of Key Border Roads Organisation Formations

NEW DELHI AUGUST 06, 2026 :- The Border Roads Organisation has achieved another landmark milestone in empowering women leaders within its operational hierarchy as two senior female officers take charge of critical field formations along strategic frontiers. Reaffirming the organisation’s commitment to excellence, professionalism, and inclusive leadership, these command appointments highlight the vital role women are playing in national infrastructure development and defense readiness. Guided by its enduring motto, “श्रमेण सर्वं साध्यम्” (Everything is achievable through hard work), the Border Roads Organisation continues to break traditional barriers by placing proven officers at the helm of high-altitude and high-stakes infrastructure projects.

In the latest high-profile deployment, Colonel Sphurti Kulkarni officially assumed command of the 45 Task Force under Project Chetak on July 30, 2026. This historic assignment makes Colonel Kulkarni the first woman officer to command this vital Task Force, which is tasked with executing and maintaining strategic road networks along India’s western frontier. Her leadership comes at a pivotal time when border infrastructure along the western sector requires precise execution, rapid connectivity, and high operational resilience to support both defense forces and regional economic development.

This milestone follows an earlier breakthrough when Colonel Shikha Bhadauria took command of the 32 Border Roads Task Force under Project BEACON on April 30, 2026. Heading a key formation in North Kashmir, Colonel Bhadauria oversees essential road networks that ensure strategic connectivity in sensitive northern regions. Her division plays a crucial operational role in maintaining vital logistics routes, including providing critical road support for the annual Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage. Together, the appointments of Colonel Kulkarni and Colonel Bhadauria demonstrate the Border Roads Organisation’s unwavering resolve to build, connect, and strengthen the nation through capable, field-tested leadership.
