Independence Day 2026: Jammu and Kashmir Government Mandates Mandatory Attendance for All Officers and Staff

SRINAGAR/JAMMU, AUGUST 05, 2026 — The Government of Jammu and Kashmir General Administration Department (GAD) has issued an official circular making attendance mandatory for all government officers and employees stationed in Srinagar and Jammu for the upcoming Independence Day 2026 celebrations. Circular No. 17-JK(GAD) of 2026, issued under the authority of Commissioner/Secretary to the Government M. Raju, highlights that Independence Day represents a monumental national milestone commemorating a historic turning point in India’s history, establishing participation in the events as an essential official duty for all government personnel.

According to the official directive, officials and officers stationed in Srinagar must attend the primary event at Bakshi Stadium, while those stationed in Jammu are required to gather at Maulana Azad Stadium. The administration emphasized that absence from the function will only be allowed with explicit prior permission from the employee’s immediate superior. Furthermore, all Administrative Secretaries, Heads of Departments, Managing Directors, and Chief Executives of Public Sector Undertakings, Corporations, and Boards have been directed to ensure complete compliance and full attendance of personnel under their administrative oversight at their respective venues.
