Vision for Better Health Indian Army’s Medical Outreach Benefits Hundreds in Ganderbal

Ganderbal May 30,2026 :- In a significant humanitarian and community outreach initiative, the Indian Army organised a comprehensive Eye Screening & Cataract Detection Medical Camp at Kangan in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal District under the aegis of COB Kangan. The camp was conducted by 2 Assam Rifles in coordination with 92 Base Hospital, reaffirming the Army’s commitment towards improving healthcare accessibility in remote area’s of District.
The medical camp witnessed an overwhelming response from the local population, with 597 civilians availing specialist eye care and medical consultation services. The medical team comprised one Opthalmologist from 92 Base Hospital, two doctors from 2 Assam Rifles, and one doctor from 24 Rashtriya Rifles, bringing together expertise from multiple healthcare institutions.
The primary objective of the camp was to identify patients suffering from cataract and other ophthalmic ailments, facilitate specialist medical care, and promote awareness regarding eye health and prevention of avoidable blindness. The initiative also served to strengthen the bond between the Indian Army and local communities through meaningful healthcare outreach.
During the camp, a total of 322 patients underwent comprehensive ophthalmic screening, which led to the identification of cases involving cataract, refractive errors, allergic conjunctivitis, pterygium, and other eye-related conditions. Notably, 35 cataract surgery cases were identified, counselled, and referred to 92 Base Hospital for further evaluation and surgical management.
The successful conduct of the Eye Screening & Cataract Detection Camp reflects the Indian Army’s unwavering dedication to the welfare of the people of Jammu & Kashmir. Through such initiatives, the Army continues to extend quality healthcare services to underserved regions while fostering trust, goodwill, and stronger civil-military relations.
