Udhampur gears up for Census 2027 self enumeration drive
UDHAMPUR, MAY 09: Deputy Commissioner and Principal Census Officer Minga Sherpa briefed the media today regarding the district preparations for the upcoming Census 2027. The official highlighted the importance of public involvement to ensure data is collected accurately and efficiently, specifically focusing on the new self-enumeration process designed to streamline the exercise.
The self-enumeration phase is scheduled to take place from May 17 to May 31, 2026. During this window, residents can log on to the official web portal at se.census.gov.in to submit their household details online. This digital initiative aims to make the census more convenient and transparent by allowing citizens to provide information securely from their own homes.
Once a submission is complete, a unique identification number will be generated which residents must save to show officials during later verification visits.Accurate data is essential for creating authentic records, and the deputy commissioner urged everyone to answer the 33 questions in the first phase truthfully.
These questions cover house listing and housing details, including household composition and various socio-economic factors. Following the digital phase, census teams will conduct door-to-door verification and house listing from June 1 to June 30, 2026.
To ensure safety and prevent fraud, the administration noted that all authorized personnel will carry official identity cards. The public was specifically cautioned that no census official will ever ask for an OTP during any part of the process.
District Census Officer Prem Singh and Additional District Census Officer Darshan Kumar were also present at the briefing to support the rollout of the census activities.
