Srinagar Drug Crackdown: Properties Worth ₹5 Crore Attached Under NDPS Act
SRINAGAR, May 23: In a massive blow to local narcotics networks, the Srinagar Police has attached multiple immovable properties worth approximately ₹5 crores belonging to notorious drug traffickers. This decisive action is part of the ongoing “Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan-100 Days Campaign,” a targeted initiative aimed at eliminating the drug menace and dismantling the financial infrastructure of illicit drug syndicates across Srinagar and its adjoining districts.
The extensive crackdown saw law enforcement target several residential properties linked to ongoing Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act cases. In Budgam, authorities attached two residential houses—a single-story and a double-story structure valued at ₹30 lakhs and ₹50 lakhs, respectively—belonging to Bilal Ahmad Sheikh and Aneek Ahmad Sheikh, both implicated in an active drug trafficking case registered at the Saddar Police Station. Additionally, a double-story house valued at ₹1 crore in the Chanapora area, owned by accused Suhaib Farooq Khan, was seized under Section 68-F(1) of the NDPS Act.
The financial squeeze on drug peddlers continued in Jawahar Nagar, where the police attached a three-story residential house with an attic, valued at ₹1 crore, belonging to Mohsin Ibrahim Naqash. In a similar enforcement action in Kursoo, Rajbagh, a three-story house worth ₹50 lakhs owned by Farhan Manzoor Pandit was formally attached. Furthermore, Police Station Karan Nagar seized a double-story residence in Bandipora belonging to Fayaz Ahmad Rather, who faces charges under both the NDPS Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The largest single asset seizure took place in Bakshiabad, Bemina, where officials attached a double-story residential house valued at ₹1.7 crores. The property belongs to Abid Hassan Dar, who is facing extensive charges involving drug trafficking, conspiracy, and forgery. Police investigations conclusively revealed that all the attached properties were acquired directly through the proceeds of illicit drug trafficking, prompting their formal attachment for eventual legal forfeiture.
Conducted transparently in the presence of Executive Magistrates, Tehsildars, and local witnesses, these operations underscore the unwavering commitment of the Jammu & Kashmir Police to safeguard the region’s youth from substance abuse. Reiterating their zero-tolerance policy, the J&K Police warned that anyone involved in drug peddling will face severe legal consequences, including the forfeiture of assets. Authorities have also urged the general public to actively cooperate by sharing confidential information regarding narcotics operations with local law enforcement.
