Northern Railway adds extra coaches to New Delhi and Katra special trains for summer rush

JAMMU, MAY 23 — Northern Railway has announced the temporary augmentation of special train services between New Delhi and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to accommodate the heavy passenger rush during the summer vacation and festive season.

Under this initiative, train number 04081/04082 will operate with an additional sleeper class coach to ensure a more comfortable and convenient travel experience.

The New Delhi to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra special train, which runs every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, will feature the extra coach from May 22 to May 27, 2026.

The return train from Katra to New Delhi, operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, will have the additional coach attached from May 23 to May 28, 2026.

Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal stated that the inclusion of the extra coach increases the total capacity of the train to 22 coaches, allowing hundreds of additional passengers to secure confirmed tickets daily.

Singhal added that the railway administration is closely monitoring other premium trains operating through the Jammu division, including the New Delhi–Jammu Tawi Rajdhani Express and the Jammu Tawi–Sealdah Express, which are also augmented with extra coaches from time to time to maintain high standards of passenger convenience and safety.
