Solid Waste Management Rules 2026: MD SBM (U) and DC Udhampur Review Execution Plan and Direct Door-to-Door Collection Upgrades

UDHAMPUR, July 10, 2026 — In a major push toward robust environmental sustainability, Mission Director of Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) and Commissioner of Jammu Municipal Corporation, Dr. Devansh Yadav, alongside Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Minga Sherpa, jointly chaired a high-level review meeting today. The session focused extensively on the strict implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules-2026 across both the urban and rural sectors of the Udhampur district.

To establish a highly accountable waste management framework, the co-chairs directed concerned departments to compile a comprehensive database identifying and registering all waste-generating institutions, bulk waste generators, and commercial establishments district-wide. The officials placed a heavy emphasis on elevating overall sanitation standards and executing the scientific management of solid waste. Furthermore, departmental officers were strictly instructed to enforce waste segregation at the source across all levels, backed by intensified public awareness campaigns to ensure the 2026 rules are followed in letter and spirit.

Addressing logistics and infrastructure gaps, the MD SBM (Urban) and Deputy Commissioner ordered immediate remedies for the existing shortage of garbage collection vehicles. Departments must now draft an actionable plan to hire additional vehicles to facilitate seamless, efficient door-to-door waste collection, while simultaneously expediting the tendering process for quick deployment. Stressing a zero-tolerance approach to compliance and aligning with Supreme Court mandates on source segregation, the leadership called on all local stakeholders to maintain close coordination to secure an environmentally sound, sustainable, and scientific waste management ecosystem throughout Udhampur.
