Srinagar MLA Hostel Gets Major Upgrade as Assembly Speaker Inaugurates Renovated Facilities and New Lifts

SRINAGAR, July 10, 2026 — In a major effort to modernize government infrastructure, Abdul Rahim Rather, the Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, officially inaugurated newly installed lifts and comprehensive renovation works at the new hostel block of the MLA Hostel in Srinagar. The newly completed upgrades are designed to enhance accessibility, convenience, and overall comfort for the region’s legislators and visitors.

During the inauguration ceremony, Speaker Rather emphasized the critical importance of updating public infrastructure to ensure efficient service delivery and top-tier amenities. He noted that because the MLA Hostel serves as a vital facility for lawmakers, its regular upkeep and modernization must remain a priority. Expressing satisfaction with the newly completed works, he highlighted that the modern lifts would offer a safer, more comfortable, and highly user-friendly environment for legislators and stakeholders alike.

Moving forward, the Speaker directed the relevant administrative authorities to enforce a strict schedule for regular maintenance to preserve the efficiency of the hostel’s facilities. He also stressed that developmental and renovation projects must always be completed in a timely manner so that public assets can continue to serve their intended purpose effectively. Rather reiterated the government’s ongoing commitment to improving public infrastructure, adding that these initiatives significantly boost the working environment and convenience for public representatives.

The high-profile event was attended by several key dignitaries, including Manoj Kumar Pandit, Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly (JKLA); the Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department (R&B) Central Kashmir; and the Chief Engineer of Mechanical & Hospital Engineering (M&HE) Srinagar, alongside various executive engineers and government officials.
