Katra drug peddler arrested with heroin as Reasi Police intensify anti-narcotics drive

REASI, May 28, 2026 :- In alignment with the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan, the Reasi Police successfully apprehended a suspected drug peddler and recovered approximately 2.5 grams of heroin, locally known as chitta, in the holy town of Katra.

The arrest took place during a routine checkpoint inspection at Ambika Chowk when a police team from the Katra Police Station intercepted a suspicious individual walking from Asia Chowk toward Fountain Chowk. A subsequent personal search of the individual, identified as Ashok Kumar, a resident of Matyal in the Katra tehsil, led to the direct discovery and seizure of the contraband.

Following the recovery of the illicit substance, law enforcement authorities registered a formal case under FIR Number 165/2026, invoking Sections 8, 21, and 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act at the Katra Police Station. A comprehensive investigation has been initiated to uncover further links and determine the source of the seized narcotics.

Reasi Police reiterated their strict commitment to completely eradicating the drug menace from the region and urged members of the general public to actively cooperate with law enforcement by sharing any actionable intelligence regarding drug trafficking or substance abuse in their respective neighborhoods.
