Jammu Srinagar national highway NH 44 traffic update and route advisory issued for June 4
SRINAGAR, June 3, 2026 — The Traffic Police Headquarters Jammu and Kashmir has issued a comprehensive traffic plan and routing advisory for June 4, 2026, details of which indicate that slow vehicle movement was recorded over the past 24 hours on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) due to single-lane conditions between Marog and Kishtwari Pather, a heavy motor vehicle breakdown at Ramsoo, and the crossing of six nomadic herds between Nachlana and Banihal.
Authorities noted that because of an ongoing nomadic herd movement and the single-lane bottlenecks, vehicular pace is likely to remain slow, prompting an advisory for commuters to strictly follow lane discipline and avoid overtaking. Furthermore, passengers and light motor vehicle operators have been strongly advised to prefer traveling along NH-44 during the daytime, while avoiding night travel entirely due to the active apprehension of shooting stones, landslides, continuing nomad movement toward the valley, and ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal.
Subject to fair weather and better road conditions, passenger LMVs, private cars, and heavy goods carriers will be permitted to ply from both sides—Jammu toward Srinagar and vice versa—under close coordination among the Traffic Control Units of Jammu, Srinagar, and Ramban, while Security Forces convoys will similarly be allowed to move from both sides after confirming the status of the highway from the Ramban control unit.
On the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag national highway (NH-244), LMVs and private cars will be permitted to run from both sides—Kishtwar toward Srinagar and vice versa—subject to fair weather and a green signal from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited, with movement allowed past the Parana and Daksum check posts between 0800 hours and 1600 hours. Heavy motor vehicles with up to six tyres and passenger vehicles with a seating capacity up to 30 will be managed on an alternate day basis, with tomorrow’s flow restricted from Kishtwar toward Srinagar through the Parana post between 0800 hours and 1600 hours under strict cut-off enforcement.
Meanwhile, on the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road, LMVs will be allowed from both sides, moving from Sonamarg toward Kargil and from Minamarg toward Srinagar up to 1300 hours following clearance from maintenance agencies, while HMVs will be permitted from Sonamarg toward Kargil between 1200 hours and 1500 hours, with all motorists advised to use anti-skid chains due to slippery road conditions.
Additionally, vehicular movement comprising LMVs followed by HMVs with up to six tyres will be allowed from both sides on the Mughal Road, with movement from Chandimarh toward Shopian permitted between 0900 hours and 1700 hours, and from Herpora toward Poonch between 1000 hours and 1700 hours following clearance from GREF.
Due to strict enforcement of the specified cut-off timings across all regional routes, travelers have been urged to verify the active status of the roads before undertaking any journey by contacting the dedicated Traffic Control Units or Police Control Rooms across Jammu, Srinagar, Ramban, Udhampur, Kishtwar, and Kargil.
