Indian Army Western Command honors Armoured Corps on 88th Corps Day
CHANDIGARH, May 1, 2026:-The Western Command of the Indian Army celebrated the 88th Corps Day of the Armoured Corps with commemorative events and tributes to its storied history.
Army Commander Pushpendra Singh extended his greetings to all ranks, veterans, and families, acknowledging the contributions of the corps to national security.
The occasion served as a moment to reflect on the regimental ethos and the continued excellence of the personnel known as the Black Berets.To mark the day, Atul Kumar Bhat, MGGS (Ops) at Headquarters Western Command, led serving officers, troops, and veterans in a wreath-laying ceremony at Veer Smriti.
The solemn ceremony was held to pay tribute to the bravehearts who have made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. Participants honored the memory of fallen soldiers whose legacy remains a cornerstone of the corps’ identity.
The Armoured Corps holds a significant place in Indian military history, defined by its decisive actions in major conflicts. From the historic induction of tanks at the icy heights of Zojila to critical engagements in Khem Karan, Asal Uttar, and Basantar, the corps has frequently shaped the outcome of battles through innovation and courage.
Today, the corps remains a vital force, maintaining a constant vigil across the northern frontiers in Ladakh and Sikkim, as well as the deserts and plains along the western borders.
