Dy CM Surinder Choudhary Backs Judicial Integrity; Vows Strict Action Against Illegal Mining in Jammu & Kashmir

JAMMU, FEBRUARY 27, 2026 — Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary has reaffirmed his confidence in the Indian judicial system following the recent court decision in the Arvind Kejriwal case, stating it has significantly “strengthened the faith of the people in the judiciary.” Addressing sensitive personal matters, the Deputy CM touched upon the ongoing investigation involving his brother, maintaining a balanced stance by allowing agencies to conduct their work while expressing hope for a fair outcome. “If someone targets you unnecessarily, it hurts,” Choudhary remarked, “but I have unwavering faith in Mata Rani and believe justice will prevail.” He emphasized that the administration remains rooted in the democratic values and the Constitution established by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, honoring the sacrifices made by ancestors to secure the nation’s freedom.

Turning his focus toward governance and the future of the youth, Deputy CM Choudhary identified unemployment and the protection of the next generation as his administration’s top priorities. He called for a shift in political discourse, urging leaders to focus on public welfare rather than mutual defamation. A major highlight of his address was a stern “zero-tolerance” policy regarding illegal mining, which he blamed for the destruction of critical infrastructure like bridges during flash floods.

To combat this, the Deputy CM announced a comprehensive overhaul of the current system:

  • Mandatory GPS & Slips: No vehicle will be permitted to leave crushers without verified digital tracking.
  • New Mining Policy: A transparent framework is being developed to lower material rates to pre-2019 levels.
  • Infrastructure Protection: Strict regulations to ensure mining activities do not compromise the structural integrity of the region’s geography.
