DG CISF Reviews Security and Election Readiness for West Bengal Assembly Polls 2026
JALPAIGURI, April 19, 2026Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Praveer Ranjan, conducted a comprehensive review of election preparedness in Jalpaiguri and Islampur on April 18 ahead of the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026.
Accompanied by ADG (North) Shri Sudhir Kumar and IG (NES-II) Shri Shikhar Sahai, the DG assessed the tactical readiness of security forces deployed across the region.
During the high-level briefing, the DG provided strategic guidance to over 1,000 personnel, including Battalion Commanders and Supervisory Officers who attended the session both in person and via virtual platforms.
The review focused on maintaining a secure environment throughout the three critical stages of the electoral process: pre-poll, polling day, and post-poll periods.
Praveer Ranjan emphasized the necessity of strict vigilance and absolute neutrality to ensure a fair democratic process. He instructed the troops to prioritize area domination exercises to deter potential disruptions and specifically highlighted the need to prevent voter inducement and intimidation.
In addition to ground security, the DG underscored the logistical safety of the elections, stressing the protection of polling personnel and the integrity of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
The visit concluded with a joint coordination meeting involving Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and district administration officers, aimed at streamlining communication and ensuring a smooth, secure polling experience for the electorate in West Bengal.
