CPIM supports Joseph Vijay’s TVK to form Tamil Nadu government
CHENNAI, May 08 — The Tamil Nadu State Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has officially announced its support for Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam leader Joseph Vijay to form the state government.
During a meeting chaired by N. Gunasekaran and attended by senior leaders including K. Balakrishnan and U. Vasuki, the party resolved to back the TVK as the single largest party following the recent Legislative Assembly elections.
The committee criticized the Governor’s delay in inviting Joseph Vijay to prove a majority, labeling the hesitation as a politically biased and anti-democratic move that violates constitutional principles.
The CPIM highlighted that its two elected members will vote in favor of a Vijay-led government during the upcoming confidence motion in the Assembly.
However, the party clarified that it will provide support from the outside and will not join the cabinet. This decision is intended to uphold the people’s mandate and prevent the imposition of President’s Rule or any attempts by the BJP to gain power through indirect means.
The committee urged the TVK to stand firm against federal interference and prioritize state rights. The resolution also condemned reported discussions between the DMK and AIADMK regarding a potential government under Edappadi Palaniswami, describing such moves as a betrayal of the voters’ will.
The CPIM leaders emphasized that their support is a strategic effort to protect democratic processes and ensure political stability in Tamil Nadu.
They called on the proposed new administration to remain committed to secularism, social justice, and people-centric economic growth while addressing the immediate aspirations of the public.
