Assam Rifles Seizes Large Cache of Weapons and Ammo in Manipur
SENAPATI, May 8, 2026:- Assam Rifles successfully recovered a substantial cache of arms and ammunition during a coordinated intelligence-based operation in the Maranmei Hill Range of Senapati, Manipur.
The operation, conducted by 16 Assam Rifles on May 7, was launched following specific inputs from various intelligence units and internal sources. The mission highlights the high level of operational preparedness maintained by security forces as they continue their efforts to suppress insurgent activities throughout the region.
The recovery included a diverse array of weaponry, featuring an AK-47 rifle, an MP-5 rifle, and a .303 rifle, all equipped with magazines. Additionally, security personnel seized two .22 rifles, four locally manufactured bolt action rifles, three .32 pistols, and two .22 pistols.
A locally made shotgun was also found at the site, further illustrating the scale of the illegal arsenal hidden in the hill range.Beyond the firearms, the force recovered a significant amount of ammunition.
The list of seized items included rounds for 5.56 mm, 9 mm, .303, and .32 caliber weapons, alongside sniper ball ammunition and 12-bore shells. Several empty cases and additional rounds were also documented during the search.
Officials stated that this recovery represents a major breakthrough in disrupting the supply chain of illegal weapons to insurgent groups.
By removing these items from circulation, Assam Rifles continues to uphold its commitment to ensuring long-term peace and security within the Northeast.
