Amritsar police dismantle cross border drug and weapon smuggling network

AMRITSAR, July 18, 2026: The Amritsar Commissionerate Police achieved a major breakthrough by dismantling a prominent cross-border drug and illegal arms smuggling network.

During the operation, law enforcement officials apprehended four accused individuals and recovered a significant cache of contraband, including 5.557 kilograms of heroin and two pistols. The successful crackdown marks a major step forward in the region’s ongoing efforts to disrupt organized illicit supply chains.

A preliminary investigation into the racket has revealed that the arrested individuals were in direct contact with foreign-based smugglers. The network operated by receiving large narcotics and weapon consignments from across the border, which were then intended for further distribution to various criminal elements within the state.

To ensure a thorough legal process, formal First Information Reports have been registered at the Islamabad and Chheharta police stations in Amritsar.Following the initial arrests, a detailed investigation is currently underway to establish both forward and backward linkages associated with the network.

Police officials are actively working to identify and track down all other associates involved in the smuggling ring. The Punjab Police reiterated their strict commitment to completely dismantling cross-border smuggling networks to ensure a safe, secure, and drug-free environment across the state.
