Shri Amarnath Yatra Resumes From Jammu After Brief Suspension; Over 1,800 Pilgrims Depart For Baltal Base Camp

JAMMU, AUGUST 06, 2026 — The annual Shri Amarnath Yatra officially resumed from Jammu early Thursday morning after a temporary one-day suspension enforced as a precautionary security measure surrounding the seventh anniversary of the August 5, 2019 constitutional developments in Jammu and Kashmir.

The 28th batch of pilgrims, comprising a total of 1,801 devotees, departed from the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas at approximately 2:45 AM, heading directly toward the Baltal base camp under heavily fortified security arrangements coordinated by the Joint Police Control Room. Officials confirmed that no convoy was dispatched along the traditional Pahalgam route for this batch.

The departing group included 1,347 men, 351 women, 89 sadhus, and 14 sadhvis, all traveling together in a convoy of 74 vehicles. The transport fleet consisted of 40 buses, 12 medium motor vehicles, 19 light motor vehicles, and three two-wheelers, with full security coverage provided throughout the route by personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police alongside the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). With the successful departure of these 1,801 devotees, official records indicate that the cumulative number of pilgrims who have set off from the Jammu base camp for this year’s Amarnath Yatra has now reached 1,43,513.
