Jammu Kashmir Pollution Control Committee Hosts Pre-Event Webinar on Circular Tourism Ahead of 10th World Circular Economy Forum
JAMMU, AUGUST 05: The Jammu Kashmir Pollution Control Committee hosted an extensive virtual seminar on Circular Economy today from its Conference Hall, bringing together key stakeholders, industrial leaders, municipal bodies, academic institutions, and representatives from the Tourism Department alongside other related administrative sectors. Organized as part of a nationwide series of pre-event initiatives, the session focused specifically on the theme of “Circular Tourism.” This collaborative exercise serves as a major prelude to the upcoming 10th World Circular Economy Forum (WCEF 2026), which is set to take place from September 15 to September 18, 2026, at Gandhi Nagar, Gujarat. The primary objective of this webinar was to foster widespread environmental awareness, facilitate cross-sector knowledge sharing, and drive actionable dialogue around the foundational principles of a circular economy, emphasizing effective strategies for embedding sustainable and zero-waste practices into the region’s expanding tourism industry.
The technical deliberations witnessed active engagement from central and state regulatory authorities, including officers from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) Regional Directorate North in Chandigarh, as well as representatives from various Pollution Control Committees and Pollution Control Boards. The event was officially launched with opening address delivered by Member Secretary JKPCC R. Gopinath, setting the tone for the environmental agenda. Regional Director Jammu Suresh Manda and Nodal Officer (WCEF) Anil Kumar Sharma were also in attendance to coordinate the proceedings. Throughout the session, subject-matter experts provided in-depth technical insights, featuring contributions from Assistant Professor Harish Chander Dutt of Jammu University, CPCB North scientists Nikita Grover and Aakash Mishra, and Senior Scientist Majid Farooq from the Department of Ecology, Environment, and Remote Sensing (JK DEERS). The session concluded smoothly with a formal vote of thanks delivered by JKPCC Scientist Anju Sidha.
