J&K Weather Update: IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall, Issues Flash Flood and Landslide Advisories for Next Five Days
SRINAGAR, JULY 7, 2026: The Meteorological (MeT) Centre Srinagar has issued a comprehensive five-day weather forecast for Jammu and Kashmir, predicting widespread light to moderate rain along with isolated spells of heavy rainfall across the region through July 12. According to the advisory, the Jammu division is expected to experience intense heavy showers and thunderstorms primarily during the late-night and early-morning hours between July 7 and July 8, with a few locations seeing brief rainfall in the afternoon. Meanwhile, several districts across the Kashmir division are also likely to receive light to moderate rain, with brief but intense downpours mainly concentrated around the afternoon and early-morning periods.
The wet spell is projected to persist through the weekend. From July 9 to July 10, many areas will continue to see light to moderate rain and thundershowers, punctuated by brief, intense heavy showers. A second wave of heightened precipitation is expected between July 11 and July 12, bringing one or two spells of rain and thundershowers to multiple locations, with isolated pockets facing heavy rainfall.
In response to the forecast, weather officials have issued a high-priority safety advisory warning of potential heavy downpours and intense showers during the July 7–8 and July 11 windows. Due to the high risk of flash floods, landslides, and mudslides, residents and travelers are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution, particularly in vulnerable areas within the Chenab Valley and the Pir Panjal Range. Authorities have explicitly urged the public to stay away from streams, nallahs, and known mudslide-prone areas until weather conditions stabilize.
