DGP reviews Shri Amarnath Yatra security at Lakhanpur base camp and Kathua national highway

KATHUA, July 6 — Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat visited the Lakhanpur base camp today to inspect security and logistical arrangements for the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.

The DGP reviewed the multi-layered security grid, access control, Joint Police Control Room, traffic management, and convoy movement along the National Highway in Kathua district.

Kathua Senior Superintendent of Police Mohita Sharma briefed the police chief on the current security measures, traffic management plans, and the implementation of standard operating procedures designed to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage.

Following the briefing, the top cop directed all security agencies to maintain peak operational preparedness and ensure seamless coordination. He emphasized the necessity of intensified day and night area domination exercises, particularly along the National Highway, key road corridors, and designated pilgrimage routes.

Field units were also instructed to strengthen surveillance and closely monitor suspicious activities across Kathua district to maintain peace. Additionally, officers were told to strictly verify the identity credentials of pilgrims and utilize the RFID-based tracking system for real-time monitoring of registered participants.

The security review concluded with instructions on handling unregistered pilgrims proactively and sensitively in coordination with the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board.

The DGP expressed confidence that constant vigilance and synergy among all stakeholders would ensure a peaceful and successful pilgrimage season.
