DLSA Budgam Conducts Legal Inspection at Central Jail Srinagar Ahead of 3rd UTRC Meeting
BUDGAM, JULY 06 (2026): In a significant step toward safeguarding prisoners’ rights, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Budgam conducted an extensive visit to the Central Jail Srinagar today. Organised under the aegis of the J&K Legal Services Authority Srinagar as part of its scheduled calendar of activities, the visit primarily aimed to prepare for the upcoming 3rd Under Trial Review Committee (UTRC) meeting slated for later this month.
During the inspection, a specialized team led by the Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel (LADC) Budgam directly interacted with the jail inmates to evaluate their legal status. The primary objective of these interactions was to identify eligible Under-Trial Prisoners (UTPs) whose cases merit review. A finalized list of these eligible prisoners will be shared with all UTRC members ahead of the official meeting, where members will collaborate to formally recommend individual releases based on mutual consent and legal eligibility. This proactive initiative underscores DLSA Budgam’s ongoing commitment to protecting the constitutional and legal rights of under-trial prisoners and supporting their families in alignment with the guidelines of the NALSA-SPURHA scheme.
