Defence Acquisition Council approves Rs 52,000 crore projects to boost military combat readiness

NEW DELHI, July 3, 2026 — The Defence Acquisition Council, chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has granted administrative approval for various capital acquisition proposals valued at approximately Rs 52,000 crore to bolster the capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces.

The approvals focus on enhancing combat readiness across the army, navy, and air force through advanced technological systems.The Indian Army received clearances for a robust lineup of modern defense systems. Key among these is the Akash Tarang electronic warfare system designed to provide anti-drone protection for army formations.

The approvals also include man-portable anti-tank guided missile systems to counter enemy armor, medium-range surface-to-air missile weapon systems, and very short-range air defense systems equipped with multi-spectral sensing to resist countermeasures.

Additionally, the army will secure active protection systems to enhance tank survivability and high-speed jet-based kamikaze drone systems to improve electronic warfare lethality cost-effectively.The Indian Navy is set to strengthen its operational awareness and maritime control through newly approved procurements.

The council cleared the acquisition of multi-influence ground mines to restrict enemy fleet maneuvers, alongside naval shipborne unmanned aerial systems fitted with advanced sensors for better situational awareness. A land-based testing facility for electric propulsion systems will also be established to evaluate motors and propulsion technology for future naval assets.

The Indian Air Force will expand its long-endurance monitoring capabilities following the approval of fixed-wing based high-altitude pseudo satellites. These specialized platforms are designed to execute persistent intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance, telecommunications, and remote sensing missions to support air operations.
