National Highway Authority of India restores traffic on Delhi Dehradun Economic Corridor after road cave in
NEW DELHI, July 3, 2026:- The National Highway Authority of India has successfully restored and reopened a section of the Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor for regular traffic movement following a road surface cave-in caused by recent rainfall.
The authority expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to commuters and confirmed that the affected location is now under continuous monitoring to ensure safe and uninterrupted travel. An investigation revealed that the incident occurred due to localized water stagnation, as the permanent cross-drainage system at the site could not be commissioned.
This was due to sustained resistance from local residents, who prevented the integration of the balancing culvert and instead used the culvert opening as a vehicular crossing, stopping the intended drainage arrangement from becoming operational.
In response to the situation, highway authorities immediately undertook restoration works and have commenced the construction of an interim parallel drain to ensure the safe disposal of rainwater until a permanent drainage system can be fully commissioned.
Taking serious cognizance of the structural failure, show cause notices have been issued to the concerned Project Director, Authority Engineer, and EPC Contractor.
Furthermore, the Team Leader of the Authority Engineer and the Project Manager of the contractor have been suspended as part of the immediate administrative action. The authority reiterated its commitment to taking all necessary measures to maintain resilient and reliable national highway infrastructure across the country.
