Assam Rifles and joint forces seize illegal cough syrup worth over 1.3 crore rupees in dual anti-smuggling operations
AGARTALA, July 3, 2026 — Assam Rifles under Spear Corps, in separate intelligence-based joint operations with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Agartala, and the Cachar Police, struck a major blow to narcotics trafficking in Tripura and Assam.
At the Agartala Railway Station, the joint team seized 55,626 bottles of illegal codeine-based cough syrup valued at approximately ₹1.27 crore. In another operation conducted at Gossaipur, Udharbond, security forces apprehended two smugglers and recovered 2,500 bottles of codeine phosphate worth approximately ₹7.25 lakh from their possession.
The recovered contraband and the apprehended individuals have been handed over to the concerned enforcement agencies for further legal action.
