JK ACB arrests Patwari and assistant for taking 70000 bribe
JAMMU, June 30: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested Shashi Kumar, a Patwari at Patwar Halqa Gole, alongside his assistant, Harkeerat Singh, for demanding and accepting a bribe of 70,000 rupees. The arrests were made after a complainant approached the bureau, reporting that the officials had demanded illegal gratification in exchange for issuing two revenue extracts, known as Fards. Refusing to comply with the bribe demand, the complainant sought official intervention from the anti-graft agency.
Upon receiving the complaint, the bureau conducted a discreet verification process that confirmed a prima facie case of bribery against the duo. This led to the registration of FIR No. 08/2026 at the Police Station ACB Central in Jammu.
The case was registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which paved the way for a formal investigation.A specialized trap team was quickly assembled by the bureau to catch the suspects in the act. The operation proved successful as both public servants were caught red-handed while accepting the 70,000 rupees from the complainant.
The bribe money was immediately recovered from their possession on the spot, with the entire sequence of events witnessed by independent individuals attached to the trap team.
Following the successful trap operation and subsequent arrests, the bureau extended its investigation by conducting thorough searches at the residential premises of both accused individuals.
These searches were carried out under the supervision of Executive Magistrates. The bureau has confirmed that further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
